Dear Members and Associates,
The NAACP has been organizing a homemade mask drive for Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and they could use any masks you make. Just over in Milwaukee, African Americans have made up the majority of the covid-19 deaths while making up a minority of the population. Jamelle Bouie wrote about this issue yesterday in the New York Times.
They held a mask give-away Monday and ran out of more than 400 masks in 30 minutes. The new event is Thursday, 5-6 pm in Memorial Park on the West side, near 605 N. Central Ave.
If you have sewing skills and can make a few, there are a ton of patterns and guides online. I found this one useful.
If you don't have sewing skills and happen to have some shop towels or can buy some, this video shows a pretty easy way to make very effective masks with a couple rubber bands, a paper clip, and staples.
If you make a few or a few dozen, you can bring them to the event to donate.
In Solidarity
