Welcome to our weekly Bowman Newsletter, for shout-outs, updates, and future events. As valued members of #TeamBowman, your dedication, and hard work are driving our campaign toward victory. Here's what's been happening and what's coming up:
We had one of our best weeks yet, knocking over 14,000 doors and making 91,000 calls! The primary is coming quickly, pressure is building… Thanks to your tireless efforts, momentum is building across NY16 — more and more support and engagement from voters who resonate with Congressman Jamaal Bowman's vision for our district.
What a great weekend! On Friday, we had our wonderful art build at Bowman HQ and let our artistic side shine making yard signs and banners for Bowman. In Scarsdale, Farah, Taliaya and Rokaya hosted a fantastic fundraiser. Saturday was a lovely night in Harlem at the fundraiser to Re-elect our congressman. Sunday morning, Jews for Jamaal rallied in Hastings for Bagels with Bowman before heading out to canvass. Later that evening, Elain and Ed Trader hosted another wonderful, fun-filled house party. Thank you to the hosts and organizers who put together events where we can come together to strengthen our movement. Organized people beat organized money every time!!!
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the dedicated task forces that do the hard work that keeps the campaign strong. We have some incredible groups rallying behind Bowman. And… You can join them too!!!
- Black men vote Task force: Following the discovery that only 10% of Black Men came out to vote in the 2022 Democratic Primary, Congressman Bowman launched a Black Male Voters Task Force to encourage civic participation and create a sense of community by identifying issues that predominantly impact Black Men. Members of the Task Force will be able to participate in quarterly meetings with Congressman Bowman and directly share issues that impact them without having to navigate through the layers of government that originally discouraged their participation in democratic primaries. - Latino Voter Task force: Members of Westchester County's Latino Community have historically felt disenfranchised and underrepresented in elected offices with only 1 Latino serving on the Westchester County Board of Legislators out of 17 seats and copies of the Westchester County Budget not being available in the Spanish language. Following the release of the 2020 census data showing that Westchester County is now 26% Latino, a more concerted effort must be made to build the political power of Latinos and create an agenda that could resonate with other congressional districts with a strong Latino population. Members of the Latino Voters Task Force will help encourage civic participation, help identify issues that should be addressed to enhance the overall quality of life, and participate in quarterly meetings with Congressman Bowman through a forum of linguistic equity. - Street team: Our street team canvasses at community events, train stations, and supermarkets, and posters small businesses throughout the district. - The Youth Task force: a coalition of engaged volunteers ages 14-25 who are focused on increasing civic engagement by registering young people to vote, raising awareness through social media and hosting events that support the congressman. We host biweekly phone banks, recruitment calls, and we lead canvasses with our fellow youth. Joining us would build our army and show the youth’s perseverance for Bowman Sign up here!
Our grassroots outreach initiatives continue to make an impact. Whether it's phone banking, door knocking, or hosting community events, your efforts are helping us connect with voters on a personal level.
Primaries are coming quickly! Voter registration is still open until June 15th, so make sure everyone you know can vote is registered. Register to vote here. Check your registration here and poll site here. The Democratic Primary is set for June 25th, early voting starts June 15th and runs through June 23rd. Need a mail-in ballot? Request one here before June 15th.
