Utah is on track to pass a bill that could completely escalate the book-banning process and make it even easier to ban books, control curriculum and stifle critical thinking in our schools and public spaces. That means influential titles like Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” and Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” are at risk of being banned.
Republicans have made it clear, John: They will not stop interfering with our education system. Given the opportunity, extremists will continue to ban books, harass our teachers and strip our students of a quality education.
That’s why Run for Something launched a 50 State School Board strategy to recruit, train and elect young progressives to school boards everywhere. By electing school board members like these, we can combat extremist organizations like Moms for Liberty who are hellbent on banning books that are overwhelmingly written by women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks and other historically marginalized groups.
We’re working hard to continue the success of our 50 State School Board strategy, but we still need to raise another $10,000 to fuel this critical program.
Run for Something is a grassroots-powered organization that recruits and empowers
young progressives running for local office, with the goal of winning permanent
power for decades to come. We've won over 1,000 elections
by relying on support from grassroots donors pitching in a little to create
big change. Please chip in now to help our candidates continue running and winning.
