Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I’m headed back to Washington, DC today to vote on legislation and participate in committee business.
Last week, I was back home traveling around to meet with many of you at events across the district. It was great to be in the community to celebrate Memorial Day and honor those who have fallen in defense of our nation. These men and women are American heroes. I also traveled to our northern border for a field hearing with the Judiciary Committee where I had an opportunity to speak with local experts about how Biden's border policies are draining our patrol agents of the ability to conduct the most important parts of their jobs.
Before moving on to the rest of the newsletter, I’d be remiss if I didn’t speak about the verdict delivered in President Trump’s trial last week. To say it was a sad day for America would be an understatement.
Democrats are so desperate to keep the limelight off of President Biden’s malfunctioning policy agenda that they’ve taken lawfare to a new low. The verdict that was delivered is an absolute sham and based largely on the ‘testimony’ of a convicted liar whose credibility sits about as low as it gets. The American people, yourself included, are watching closely—and what we see is complete abuse and weaponization of our government against political opponents.
Many of you have called my office about the verdict and I just want to let you know I hear you loud and clear. I share your concerns too. I believe justice will prevail in the end, and I feel even more resolved to hold the line in Congress against President Biden’s disastrous policy agenda.
Have a great week.
- Scott
Vietnam Memorial Replica—The Wall That Heals—Comes to Hartland
I couldn’t think of a better time for The Wall That Heals to come to Wisconsin than right on the heels of Memorial Day.
As you may have read in my last newsletter, I was just on the National Mall last week visiting with a large group of veterans from Wisconsin – one of which I was fortunate enough to present a Congressional Gold Medal to.
We were right across from the Vietnam Memorial, and I can say with certainty that The Wall That Heals carried the same power in Hartland that I felt in Washington, DC.
The Vietnam War was more than just a moment in our history; it was a defining chapter that tested the resilience, courage, and patriotism of an entire generation.
Over 58,000 veterans paid the ultimate price while serving our country in Vietnam—and we must never forget their enduring legacy of valor which ultimately defined the Vietnam War's importance in our nation's history.
I want to take a moment to honor the 67 veterans from Waukesha County whose names are etched on the wall and forever ingrained into our nation’s history.
There are three veterans from Hartford I want to call out by name: Thomas James Carstens, Donald Albert Sudbrink, and Darryll Jay Koch.
Wisconsin is proud to call these heroes our own. May they rest in peace.
As every year passes, it becomes even more important for us to pay our respects and to keep the memory alive for the legacies these soldiers left behind.
Traveled to Our Northern Border
Last week I joined the Judiciary Committee at a field hearing in North Dakota to shine a light on how our southern border crisis is connected and equally impactful on our northern border.
I had a chance to speak with border patrol who told me their agents are being forced to process illegal immigrants instead of PATROL the actual border because of the massive number of illegal immigrants coming to our country.
This is totally unacceptable. President Biden must end his open border policies NOW. Watch my full Q&A at the hearing here.
PM Netanyahu Invited to Capitol Hill
On Friday, it was officially announced that Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Schumer, Republican Leader McConnell, and Democrat Leader Jeffries sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu inviting him to address a Joint Meeting of Congress.
I'm incredibly pleased to hear this news and look forward to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu coming to Capitol Hill. When I was in Israel earlier this year, I asked the prime minister myself if he would come speak to Congress, to which he said he would. I also sent a letter with 50 of my colleagues earlier this year urging the Speaker to invite the prime minister to give an address. I believe it is of the utmost importance that members of Congress receive an update on Israel's fight against Hamas and mission to bring home the hostages—some of whom are U.S. citizens.
