John,
I want to congratulate Canyon County for throwing their first-ever pride festival this month. If we’re lucky, it won’t be their last.
Pride Month is a celebration of the diversity and strength of my community. It’s also a time to recognize and reflect on the struggles LGBTQ+ Americans faced in past decades as we fought for social acceptance and equal rights under the law.
I’m running for every kid in every small town who feels like they have to live in silence because they don’t see anyone who looks like them in positions of leadership or public service.
And I’m running to fight against the party that would rather them hide or die than be proud of who they are.
Last June, legislative threats to the LGBTQ+ community were limited to individual states. Now, the TOP of the Republican Party is planning to roll back the clock on our rights and even our existence.
Donald Trump has said on the campaign trail that, if re-elected, he will defund any public school that recognizes gay and transgender students.
He has also confirmed that much of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 presidential transition plan aligns with his own agenda.
That plan includes redefining marriage as between a man and a woman, ending LGBTQ+ protections, blocking healthcare access for trans Americans, reinstating a transgender military ban, and efforts to criminalize any and all acknowledgement of the existence of LGBTQ people.
John, I wasn’t joking when I said this could be Canyon County, Idaho’s first AND last Pride festival. If Trump and Republicans across the country win in November, this could be the last Pride Month ever.
The best person to protect LGBTQ+ Americans in Congress is a member of the community like me. Help me send the message that WE BELONG, and help me fight for MY RIGHTS and the rights and liberties of every American.
