Happy Pride Month, John!
The first Pride Month started in 1969 in the aftermath of the Stonewall Riots, where ordinary folks rose up against discrimination and prejudice to stand for their rights. In the 55 years since, we've come a long way.
Let’s celebrate all the progress we have made this month, but we should not lose sight of the battles to come. Each Supreme Court decision that pulls back our hard fought freedoms is another step in the wrong direction. It’s why we need leaders – like Sarah McBride, Robert Garcia, and Becca Balint to name a few – who understand what’s at stake and are ready to help us make even more progress.
This month isn’t just about parades and rainbow flags, it’s also about uplifting the folks who are supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community and highlighting the work they put into their communities each and every day. In honor of their dedication, we’ve assembled a list of some pretty cool political organizations that have been pivotal in advocating for the LGBTQ+ community:
- LGBTQ+ Victory Fund
- National LGBTQ Task Force
- Human Rights Campaign (HRC)
