April 2020

Dear John,

Flood season is here — and it’s falling right in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. With people facing both shelter-in-place orders and displacement from their homes because of flooding, it is dangerously clear that we need better ways to manage flooding that don’t put already-vulnerable people at greater risk.

The good news? Proven solutions can protect people while giving rivers room to flood safely. That’s the message of America’s Most Endangered Rivers® of 2020, our annual report spotlighting rivers at a crossroads, released today.

This year’s list of ten rivers underscores why your support for clean water and healthy rivers matters now more than ever. We've seen how communities even hundreds of miles apart can collaborate and transform a river, like our 2020 River of the Year, the Delaware River.

Together, we can improve public health and safety, and we will create a better future for our rivers and communities.

A Most Endangered Year

We believe that life needs rivers, a conviction that is strengthened in a time when life seems more vulnerable than it did a few weeks ago. While it’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a global pandemic, a little action-taking may be just what we need right now. So, let’s get to it. Read More...

Act now: Contagion control needed for flood fight
To immediately address the dual threats of coronavirus and flooding along the Upper Mississippi River, the #1 Most Endangered River in the nation, we’re calling on the region’s governors to request special mission assignments for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to set up contagion control around flood fighting efforts. Take action to support solutions that improve public safety and river health.
