It’s a little crazy to think that we’re almost halfway through the year—but June is going to be a big month for this campaign, and here’s why: |
-
We’re going to continue crisscrossing this state from west to east, with some great events on my calendar in places like New Hanover, Mecklenburg, Wayne, Chatham, Dare, Cabarrus, Catawba, and more—and if you’ve got something going on, please send an email to me or my team, because I’d love to make it out to every event I can.
-
With the State Board of Elections’ campaign finance reporting deadline coming up on June 30th, June will be make or break for our campaign. This will be the first major reporting deadline after the primary election, meaning that it’ll be the first real chance for the political class to see how my opponent and I stack up against each other in terms of fundraising momentum.
|
Just like it was last year for our primary, the number we post after the June deadline will be the metric by which the decision makers judge how serious of a campaign this is. The Republican Party isn’t going to yield this seat without a serious fight, and it’s absolutely critical that our grassroots momentum shows off that we mean business.
To that end, the theme for June is full circle, because I’m setting my most ambitious fundraising goal yet. This month, we’re going to raise $360,000, cross the threshold of a million total raised across this campaign, and show the whole country that North Carolina voters are ready for a Treasurer and a state government who believes in them.
Normally, you know I don’t even mention our goals and deadlines until much closer to the end of the month—but this month, it really matters, so I’m throwing down the gauntlet for myself. There’s no taking this number back, and if we don’t hit it, then the whole world will know. But I’m not worried. We’re building a movement from Murphy to Manteo for all of our neighbors, we’re going into communities that haven’t heard from Democrats in far too long, and we are on track to change the face of politics in our state for the better.
