James, the Social Security Board just released a report showing that if something drastic doesn’t change, the program will need to CUT benefits to seniors by 2035.
The solution? Raise taxes on millionaires and billionaires. Our movement and our progressive champions in Congress, like Pramila Jayapal, are ready for this fight:
Wealthy people pay LESS of a percentage of their income in Social Security taxes than teachers, janitors, retail workers, and the vast majority of working people because of ridiculous, unjust tax loopholes. Congress must get rid of these tax loopholes to save Social Security!
Add your name: Tax the rich and fund Social Security! Millionaires and billionaires must pay their fair share before it’s too late for our most important social safety net programs.
Social Security taxes are capped after someone earns around $160,000 per year in income. That means the ultra-wealthy stop paying even if they make millions a year. It’s a clear example of the tax code written for millionaires and billionaires by politicians getting big campaign donations from CEOs, corporations, and right-wing billionaires.
Republicans have been trying to cut Social Security for decades. And if Congress does nothing, the GOP will get its way — just by being an obstacle to changes that help working people and hurt their wealthy donors.
Add your name: Tax the rich, save Social Security!
When we organize, we win.
