John,
My colleagues in Congress are more outraged over the protests on college campuses than they are about the atrocities they’re funding in Palestine. After funding bombs that destroyed all of Gaza’s universities, many lawmakers are now trying to silence and criminalize people at universities here.
Rather than listen to their students’ demands to divest from weapons contractors and end university complicity in genocide, school administrators are having students arrested and evicted. We can’t let universities send militarized police after their students to protect their investments in war. We must listen to and protect these students now.
Right now, the National Lawyers Guild is helping students who are facing arrests and disciplinary proceedings for standing up against the genocide in Palestine.
Providing legal support and on-the-ground help on campuses, the National Lawyers Guild is training their network of activists, community members, organizers, legal workers, law students, and lawyers to respond to this escalating repression.
Can you donate today to support pro-Palestine student activists and help power the Detroit and Michigan chapter of the National Lawyers Guild? They rely on grassroots contributions to keep protecting our right to protest.
As universities use repressive tactics against students, they’re trying to stop a powerful movement that’s asking: Why are our universities so heavily invested in weapons and war in the first place?
I’m a proud member of the Detroit and Michigan chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, which works across the state to protect the rights of those fighting for social change, including people demanding Palestinian liberation.
Last week I had the chance to spend time with students at my alma mater, Wayne State University, who have been demanding divestment from weapons manufacturers. While I was on campus, officers in a police SUV tried to drive through a crowd of students. And at the University of Michigan recently, students were sprayed with toxic chemicals for calling to save lives.
It’s clear that we need to keep each other safe.
Please donate today to help the Detroit and Michigan chapter of the National Lawyers Guild protect students who are putting their bodies on the line to stop the genocide of Palestinians.
Thank you for demanding a society that respects our shared humanity, upholds our human rights, and values all life.
In solidarity,
Rashida
