As I grew up, I had no idea what the future held, but I had a pretty good idea of the kind of man I wanted to be. My dad — he’s the one with me in that photo — was a founding partner in North Carolina’s first integrated law firm and a fierce advocate for people’s civil rights.

Even when his office was firebombed by racists determined to cling to the status quo, my dad and his partners didn’t back down.

His commitment to advancing justice and equality helped me steer my own path.

Eventually, I joined the North Carolina Department of Justice, first as an intern. So was Anna! That’s when we met. 👇

We wanted to raise our family here and model the same commitment to our state and our neighbors that our own parents showed us.

Since my days as an intern, I’ve served North Carolinians in every way I can — as a consumer advocate, a legislator, and Attorney General.

I’ve taken on big fights. I’ve stood up for our most fundamental rights and freedoms. I have defended the interests of North Carolinians at every turn.

Now, I’m the Democratic nominee for Governor of North Carolina — and I’m locked in the most competitive gubernatorial race of 2024.

North Carolina is a swing state at every level, and this race is a top GOP target to flip. We have to defeat the extremist Republican agenda before it’s too late and has inflicted too much damage to our state.

John, a lot has changed over the years, but one thing will always remain true: North Carolina is my home, and I know its future is worth the fight.
