TELL CONGRESS: Clarence Thomas and the right-wing Justices on SCOTUS will let states get away with gutting voting rights and racist gerrymandering if our lawmakers don't act. Sign the petition: Urge Congress to end racist, partisan gerrymandering by passing the Freedom to Vote Act!
Hi, The Supreme Court just made it harder to stop racist gerrymandering. The right-wing conservatives on SCOTUS ruled against the NAACP in a case where the organization claimed that GOP lawmakers in South Carolina redrew Congressional maps to confine the democratic voting power of Black residents into a single district. Clarence Thomas went even further, saying Courts should stay out of such cases altogether and allow states to gerrymander as much as they want.1 That would leave a lot of power in the hands of state lawmakers with political, race-based motives. This is another right-wing SCOTUS ruling that hurts our democracy and our voting rights. We need Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act to end partisan, racist gerrymandering. Sign the petition: Urge Congress to end racist, partisan gerrymandering! GOP gerrymandering is extremely beneficial to Republican elected officials and extremely detrimental to the people. GOP lawmakers across the country are engaging in partisan gerrymandering to silence certain voters, especially in communities with voters of color, and give Republicans an unfair and undemocratic advantage in elections. This SCOTUS ruling authored by Samuel Alito will open the floodgates to even more suppressive, discriminatory, and undemocratic redistricting nationwide WITHOUT the backstop of federal courts. We cannot allow the GOP to silence voters, and we surely cannot allow the Supreme Court to have the last word on legitimizing the GOP’s gerrymandering. Congress must pass the Freedom to Vote Act now! Add your name: Tell Congress to ban racist gerrymandering by passing the Freedom to Vote Act. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
