Dear John,

In case you missed it, last week we announced your first candidate of 2020: Jonathan Kassa in Pennsylvania! ([link removed]) In these uncertain times, state legislatures are more important than ever—and our candidates are preparing for an especially difficult campaign cycle. Read on to learn more about Jonathan, and find out what you can do to help right now.

MEET JONATHAN KASSA
Jonathan is a small business owner who has led national initiatives to increase campus community safety and victim advocacy for the last decade. Most recently, he partnered with other national experts and founded a company that leverages technology to increase equity and transform accountability and efficiencies in campus crime reporting. Jonathan is also a director on the North Penn School District Board, where he serves as Chair of the Facilities & Operations and Safe Schools committees. Read more about Jonathan. ([link removed])

WHY PENNSYLVANIA IS IMPORTANT
Democrats need to win nine seats in the PA House to flip the chamber blue. Momentum is on our side: in 2018, Democrats broke a Republican supermajority in the Senate and flipped a dozen State House seats. Flipping a chamber in the PA legislature would give Democrats a critical seat at the redistricting table, particularly for Congressional redistricting.

This a ‘last chance’ race: whoever is elected to the state legislature in 2020 will draw the next round of district lines.

WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW?
1. Make a donation of $20.20 (or more if you can!). ([link removed]) Your donation will go entirely to your candidates. Opponents are often funded by just a few big donors, so let’s show them some grassroots love!
2. Spread the word! ([link removed]) Help others learn about your candidates on social media. Please follow and like, and check out our shareable graphics on our candidate pages (two are above!).
3. Step up to host a (virtual) house party or phonebank! Reach out to your District Captains to learn more, If you need help getting in touch with your local leaders, let us know ([link removed]) .

WHAT’S NEXT?
All campaigns are still getting up and running, but right now the most important thing we can do is help raise early money. We don’t yet know the full impact that the global pandemic will have on campaigns, but we know that canvassing and local community opportunities will be seriously limited. This makes our remote work all the more important.

Over the coming months, you will have the opportunity to phonebank, write postcards, and textbank. In the meantime, check out our Virtual Organizing Hub ([link removed]) for resources on how to move your events online.

November will be here sooner than you think—let’s get to work!
