** Chair's Corner

Aloha Hawaii Republicans,
------------------------------------------------------------
There is a lot going on in our country, and it’s a time to reflect on what is important and the direction we are headed. Don’t let the recent events further divide this country. We know that there are opinions on both sides of the aisle regarding the recent verdict on President Donald Trump. We have to look at where we are headed and the decisions that are being made for our country. Are we, the people, being considered when our tax dollars are being spent? Are we better off? Are more people leaving Hawaii? Is the homeless population growing? What is our economy like? Are our borders safe? Are we sending money to foreign countries when our children are starving and humans are being trafficked? It’s time to open our eyes and stand together.

As I have mentioned on a few occasions, the Hawaii Republican Headquarters was put up for sale. It did sell, and the sale was finalized today. We hope this will enable us to have a new beginning and support our candidates and our future. We will be creating a responsible plan to help the party stay healthy for years to come and encourage future leaders to not be complacent and to continue building the strength of the party while being fiscally responsible.

To answer a couple questions:
Who approved the sale of the building?
The answer is the State body as required per our bylaws 417. The sale needed to also be in joint agreement with our partnership with the Oahu League of Republican Women. They worked side by side with the Republican Party to ensure a smooth process in the best interest of both parties. We were happy to have gotten through the transaction with minimal issues. It was a lot of hard work. I appreciate Shirlene Ostrovs willingness to work together, and it showed that we were able to accomplish quite a feat. Mahalo Shirlene, Mary and the OLRW team. We listed the property for more than the appraisal value and got the asking price. That was a win for everyone. We have guidelines that we need to follow to ensure the monies are spent appropriately and within the boundaries of the FEC rules and laws.

We know that the building has hosted a lot of memories, but now is the time to make new memories and be productive as a party. I’d like to thank the following for all of their hard work over the past two weeks in getting the building in order from packing, moving, cleaning, loading up items to storage, getting assistance, solving problems, etc. Mahalo to Brett Kulbis, Sheryl Bieler, Michael Jauch, Martin Choi, Noland Chang, and others along with the Hawaiiana fellas for taking items and helping move the larger pieces of furniture, and the Salvation Army as well. It was a lot of work to accomplish, but we did it.

Let's try and work to make a difference in our party, our community, our State and our country.

Mahalo nui loa,
Tamara McKay
State Chair, Hawaii Republican Party
