Our AANHPI community is often invisible in the political conversation, yet they are some of the most impactful leaders we have at the state and local level today. They have a unique perspective that allows them to focus on the most important issues for people in their communities – such as immigration, housing, and labor. The power that young, progressive people have to improve, inspire and create public policies that work for everyone is truly remarkable.

Below are just a few of our rockstars:

  • Ellie Sato, House District, Maine:
Ellie serves as chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee of the Maine Democratic Party. She has been working to promote better representation in the state party for those in marginalized and disadvantaged communities. Particularly, she is working to remove barriers of participation to political activism. She would become the first Japanese-American to serve in the Maine State Legislature.
  • Priya Sundareshan, Senate, Tucson, Arizona:
Priya is an Indian-American state senator, mother of two, environmental lawyer and educator and voting rights advocate who is fighting for sustainability and voting rights in Arizona.
  • Saira Draper, State Representative for Atlanta-DeKalb, Georgia:
Saira is a Pakistani-American serving as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 90. District 90 has a tradition of electing women of color who are voting rights champions.

Our country needs more Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders to run for office if we want to build up our democracy with stronger, more diverse representation.

Run for Something is committed to doing exactly that – but we need your help to reach our $15,000 end-of-month goal before midnight so we can make that happen.

Please, help us close out AANHPI Heritage Month on a high note. Will you chip in $5 to help us reach our end-of-month goal before midnight and support young progressives from the AANHPI community and beyond?

Thanks so much for supporting the AANHPI community,
