This Week’s Scholar Exchanges: Fourth Amendment and AP Court Cases

Sessions on Wednesday and Thursday will answer the following questions:

Why did the framers put the Fourth Amendment in the Bill of Right?
When does the Fourth Amendment allow the government to search you or seize your property?
Can the government track you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for an entire month, using your cell phone data and location information?

Friday's session on AP court cases, in partnership with the College Board, will examine:

McCulloch v. Maryland (1819)
Engel v. Vitale (1962)
Schenck v. United States (1919)
Gideon v Wainwright (1963)
Baker v. Carr (1963)
And 10 more canonical cases

This Scholar Exchange will allow students to examine the text and interpretations of the Fourth Amendment to describe key terms and ideas like searches, seizures, and privacy, as well as define some of the key debates about where the Fourth Amendment is headed in an age of technology.

The Advanced Placement (AP) exam has been rewritten for 2020 and covers three units with two free-response questions (FRQs). This fast-paced and fun session will review the top 15 court cases from a typical course of study for an AP Government class.

Teachers can register for the session and forward the link to their students, or ask students to register individually.
