Maybe you don’t need more convincing. But if you do, please keep reading. Hear us out.
We started the NCTE Action Fund, our 501(c)(4) organization, in 2017 because having only a 501(c)(3) organization limited the work we could do. The previous year, 2016 was a doozy. North Carolina had passed HB2 — the “bathroom bill,” which was a big loss in the community. We were ready to act, but Governor McCrory, who signed the bill, was running for re-election. As a 501(c)(3), NCTE was limited in what we could say about him because he was a candidate in an election.
There’s more. You may recall another 2016 candidate who was traveling across the country spreading anti-trans rhetoric. After Trump was elected, he immediately announced he’d run again in 2020 to keep his candidate status.
We had to act and the NCTE Action Fund was born. The NCTE Action Fund allowed us to increase our state and local lobbying, endorse and support candidates, engage with presidential candidates through Transform the White House, lead our Transform the Vote campaign, and speak up against presidents and candidates running anti-trans campaigns.
And now the NCTE Action Fund is expanding to become the Advocates for Trans Equality to launch even more, impactful work. With your support today of $34 or more, the NCTE Action Fund can endorse and support pro-trans equality candidates and so much more.
