Democrat,

Welcome to Pride Month! Together, we stand firm in our commitment to inclusivity, respect, and support for LGBTQIA+ rights. May this month be a reminder of the progress we've made and the journey still ahead.

New Jersey Democrats have been at the forefront of advancing LGBTQIA+ policy at all levels. In 2023, Governor Murphy signed an executive order establishing New Jersey as a safe haven for gender-affirming healthcare. Earlier this year, New Jersey codified the process to certify LGBTQ+-owned businesses. In doing this, these businesses have an equal opportunity to access local contracting opportunities and increase their eligibility for state agency initiatives.

Above all, I encourage you all to take a moment this month to reflect and support our LGBTIA+ community and businesses. Please find a local event around the state, here [[link removed]] , and a special shout out to our LGBTQ+ Caucus [[link removed]] for being pivotal towards advocacy and representation. For more information on resources and organizations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, head over to New Jersey’s DCF dashboard, here [[link removed]] .

Let's celebrate the beauty of diversity, equality, and love that enriches New Jersey!

May is Maternal Health Awareness Month. Despite the immense work New Jersey and First Lady Tammy Murphy have put forth in advocating for maternal health, we still face the challenge of too many mothers and birthing people not getting the help they need postpartum. Particularly, Black mothers have a higher risk of experiencing postpartum depression and a lesser likelihood of receiving the care they need.

In collaboration with FamilyConnectsNJ, we are one of the only states in the country offering free, in-home, nurse visits within two weeks of delivery. These visits are offered regardless of income, insurance or immigration status. The program is currently being phased in state-wide and is offered in Essex, Gloucester, Mercer, and Cumberland counties. “Thanks to the Governor, the First Lady, the Legislature and all of our system partners, we are implementing solutions that will begin to address long standing structural and systemic issues and provide parents and their newborns a real chance at continued health and wellbeing.” said NJ DCF First Deputy Katherine Stoehr . The FamilyConnects NJ website [[link removed]] offers information in 11 languages and allows families to schedule appointments directly. Mothers and mother figures are the backbones of our families. I encourage you to keep this resource in mind because maternal health deserves to be protected and nourished every day of the year.

The Affordable Connectivity Program, established by President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Initiative, is the largest internet affordability program in the history of the United States. It aims to address the issue of unaffordable high-speed internet, which is crucial for participation in education, work, healthcare, and staying connected. The program has already benefited over 23 million households nationwide, saving them $30-$75 per month on their internet bills. In New Jersey, 337,969 households , which is 1 in 10 households in the state, have seen savings due to this program. Additionally, the Biden-Harris Administration has collaborated with internet providers to offer fully covered high-speed internet plans through the Affordable Connectivity Program.

Staying connected is essential, and having access to the internet is a necessity in today's world. Follow us for our updates [[link removed]] !
