As news broke yesterday about former President Trump being found guilty on
34 felony counts related to falsifying business records to aid his 2016
campaign, cheers for the fundamental principle that no one is above the
law erupted across the nation. At the same time, as we celebrate this step
towards accountability and justice, we must not lose sight of the dangers
that lie ahead of us.
Trump and his MAGA allies are preparing a complete and total government
takeover through their Project 2025 campaign – one that will weaponize
federal agencies; purge civil servants who are “disloyal” to Trump and the
MAGA agenda; advance Christian nationalist threats to the separation of
church and state; give Trump the dictatorial powers he seeks should he
become president; impose a brutal crackdown on immigration; jeopardize or
upend many of our cherished rights and freedoms; and more!
These are the stakes on the ballot this November – it’s the 2020 MAGA
agenda on steroids.

[ [link removed] ]Supreme Court Majority Makes It Easier to Weaken Black Electoral Power
The Supreme Court issued its decision in the racial gerrymandering case of
Alexander v. South Carolina Conference of the NAACP. The 6-3 decision by
the conservative majority weakened Black people’s ability to fully
participate in our democracy.
The majority opinion in this voting rights case was written by Justice
Samuel Alito, who has publicly signaled support for violently reversing
election results, twice displaying flags at his home that are closely
associated with election-denying insurrectionists. It shows just how
corrupt the majority has become. It is a stain not just on Alito, but also
on Chief Justice John Roberts, who purports to care about the integrity of
the Court he leads.

Beach House
The New York Times reported last week that an “Appeal to Heaven” flag was
flown over Justice Samuel Alito’s beach house last summer. Like the
upside-down American flag flown at the Alitos’ home in the days following
the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, the Appeal to Heaven flag was
carried by insurrectionists who believed that fighting to keep Donald
Trump in office was a righteous cause.
