Dear John,
I hope you and your families had a safe and restful Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to recognize the sacrifice of the brave men and women who have lost their lives in service to our country. We can never truly understand the level of sacrifice demonstrated by America’s service members and their families, or truly repay them for their service to our country. But we can work hard to honor all they’ve done to protect our country – and work to make sure they and their families get the care, resources and support they earned.
This week I was able to spend some time working in the Second District and announce two new federal investments in our community!
First, we secured $869,000 in federal funding to help build a fence around the Farmington Police Department property. This was something I’ve been working on for over a year with Farmington Mayor Joshua Hoyt and Police Chief Gary Rutherford – and now the project will provide additional necessary security for the critical infrastructure within the police department.
Second, we secured $500,000 to help complete the Merriam Junction Regional Trail connecting Scott and Carver Counties and stabilize the shoreline of the Minnesota River. A completed trail will help spur economic development and allow more people to access small businesses in the area. Scott County Commissioner Barb Weckman Brekke and I have been working to complete this project for several years now, and I look forward to delivering on this priority for Scott County.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Uplifting Rosemount manufacturers
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to visit the CF Industries plant in Rosemount to get a tour of the facility and talk with workers about how we can continue to strengthen our domestic manufacturing supply chains and create good paying jobs for Minnesotans in their community.
Hosting my 65th town hall
On Thursday I hosted my May telephone town hall, my 65th town hall since taking office. A special thank you to South Metro Fire Chief Mark Juelfs for joining us for a great conversation about the work Minnesota EMS professionals do every day.
Touring Ravine Park in Cottage Grove
And this morning, I joined Washington County Commissioner Karla Bigham for a tour of Ravine Park in Cottage Grove! What a great space for the Cottage Grove community.
Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig
Did you know that Ravine Park has grazing goats who help manage the land? Got to meet some of them during my tour today!
Well, that about wraps up my update for the week. I’ll be back in Washington for votes next week. Wishing you and your families a safe and relaxing weekend.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
