LAST CHANCE TO ACT: Help Us Pass Key New York State Environmental Justice Legislation

Our state legislative session ends on June 6, one week from today. And we are very close on some key bills. Your support in putting pressure on the Assembly has been extremely helpful, so now it’s time to push the Senate as well.

Help us in calling Majority Leader of the New York State Senate Andrea Stewart-Cousins, asking her to pass the Lead Paint Right to Know Act (S.2353 ([link removed]) /A.4820 ([link removed]) ) and the Beauty Justice Act ([link removed]) (S.4265 ([link removed]) /A.6969 ([link removed]) ) . It could really help us get these bills over the line and onto the Governor’s desk for her signature!

Please call Senator Stewart-Cousins at 518-455-2585 (or 518-455-2715 if that other line is busy) and say something along the lines of:

"Hello! My name is [your name] and I live in [your town or city]. I'm calling because we need the Senate Majority Leader to pass the Lead Paint Right to Know Act, bill number S.2353, and the Beauty Justice Act, bill number S.4265, this session. Our communities need protection from lead poisoning and the toxic chemicals found in personal care products. That’s why we need the Senate to pass these key environmental justice bills.

GET READY: Help Your Uptown Community Prepare for Climate Change

Do you work with an organization in Northern Manhattan? WE ACT is bringing back our award-winning Climate Ready Uptown Plan Workshops, and we would love to host one for your members! We’ll be doing workshops all summer long at member-based community organizations based Uptown. At these workshops, we will distribute the Climate Ready Uptown Plan ([link removed]) - an interactive pamphlet that helps Northern Manhattan community members understand their individual risk to climate-related disasters – specifically extreme heat and flooding. And we’ll educate participants on the basics of extreme weather and disaster preparedness.

If you or your organization is interested, please fill out the ([link removed]) form ([link removed]) and we'll be in touch with details!

* NYC Parks: Annie Carforo co-authored an Op-Ed in amNY ([link removed]) with NYLCV's Alia Soomro calling for the Mayor to address the inequities in New York City's parks and other green spaces.

We were out on the streets again this week in Assembly Member Al Taylor's and Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs' districts in Harlem talking to their constituents about the importance of the NY HEAT Act ([link removed]) . Time is running out to pass this bill to lower energy bills as we head into another hot, expensive summer. We need every one of our Northern Manhattan elected leaders doing everything they can to get this critical bill passed.
