I’m not exaggerating when I say that our choice this November is between authoritarianism or democracy.

MAGA extremists and far-right figureheads aren’t even trying to hide it, John. Project 2025, led by the right-wing Heritage Foundation, is explicitly aimed at dismantling checks and balances in our government so that Donald Trump can consolidate power and use it with impunity.

John, we’ve repeatedly called out the incompetence and obstruction of Team Extreme in this “do nothing” Congress. The GOP House majority spends most of their time fighting with each other like ferrets in a phone booth, and trying to take credit for popular programs and projects funded by Democrats and President Biden over their opposition. As hapless as Team Extreme has been, we must not forget that the policies they’ve tried to push in this Congress are extreme and dangerous. If they win majorities in the House and Senate this fall, it would become very hard to stop them. And in the unthinkable event that Trump returns to the White House, they would unleash Project 2025’s audacious assault on democracy.

We know what’s in store if Trump and his MAGA allies win: installing extremists and MAGA sycophants in key positions throughout the government; dismantling democratic safeguards and institutions; and taking a sledgehammer to fundamental rights and freedoms.

Like you, I’m not willing to surrender our values, our decades of social and environmental progress, and our democracy to Team Extreme. We must win these elections, John. And if we stand together, we will.
