A jury of twelve ordinary citizens found Donald Trump GUILTY on all 34 counts in the People of the State of New York v. Trump case of falsifying business records to cover up campaign finance violations during the 2016 presidential election.
It is the first conviction of a former U.S. president in history.
This is an important affirmation of the rule of law. No one individual, no matter how powerful or rich, is above the law. Not even a former President of the United States. Anything less is not democracy.
Trump’s felony convictions will not bar him from running for President, and we will still need to defeat him in November. And as we saw outside the courthouse immediately after the verdict, he will be even more aggressive in attacking the democratic guardrails protecting our institutions.
