Hi John,
The government is trying to rig the system to give more MPs taxpayer-funded pensions.
The good news is you can stop this if you act now.
Democratic Institutions Minister Dominic LeBlanc introduced legislation that would move the next scheduled election from Oct. 20 to Oct. 27, 2025.
MPs who were elected in the 2019 election aren’t eligible for a pension until Oct. 21, one day after the currently scheduled election.
That means if the government moves the election back one week, 80 additional MPs will be eligible for their lifetime pensions. That could cost up to $120 million.
Here’s how lucrative their pensions are: some MPs could only serve for six years and still be eligible to collect more than $2 million from their lifetime, taxpayer-funded pension.
The good news is the New Democrats just said they’re going to oppose the change.
Conservatives and the Bloc are also opposed.
And the issue is supposed to come up in the House of Commons today.
So it’s important to keep the government’s feet to the fire too.
