Dear John,
As America continues to deal with the coronavirus crisis, Family Research Council is working hard on your behalf advocating for faith, family, and freedom. We will not falter to be your voice especially when it comes to defending the most vulnerable.
While we pray that God would intervene and stop this crisis, and even as we lift up those already affected, we are not losing sight of another important life-or-death matter: the fight for babies in the womb.
This January, during President Trump's third State of the Union address, there were many powerful moments. One in particular highlighted the sanctity of life as the president welcomed two-year-old Ellie Schneider and her mother, Robin.
While Robin held Ellie in the Gallery of the House of Representatives, President Trump shared, "In 2017, doctors at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City delivered one of the earliest premature babies ever to survive. Born at just 21 weeks and 6 days, and weighing less than a pound, Ellie Schneider was a born fighter. Ellie reminds us that every child is a miracle of life."
With more and more medical advancements that can support and protect babies outside the womb as early as 20 weeks gestation, little Ellie reminds us that science is on the side of life.
While Trump urged Congress to provide additional funding for the advancement of neonatal research to save more premature babies, he also called upon House members to ban late-term abortions.
"Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God."
In my 25 years of political involvement, I have never seen a president who has done more to advance the sanctity of life and to protect and restore religious freedom at home and abroad. Trump's address not only spoke about protecting the unborn, but it also gave me hope that despite the Left's radical pro-abortion agenda, our culture is moving toward life!
At Family Research Council, we celebrate President Trump's unwavering commitment to the inherent dignity of every human life. As believers in Christ, it is our responsibility to stand up for every human being -- born and unborn.
Your commitment to join FRC's unrelenting efforts to protect life and defend the most vulnerable is needed as the pro-life movement is at a tipping point like never before. Will you help us today with a generous gift?
Keep the Pro-Life Momentum Going
In the 47 years since the Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion on demand in this country, the contrast between the two sides of the abortion debate has never been more stark. A line is being drawn, and the radical Left is working tirelessly to advance their anti-life agenda.
In 2019, we witnessed a timeline of the Left's "all in" support for abortion:
- On January 22nd -- the 46th memorial of Roe v. Wade -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, legalizing abortion up to the day of birth. It denies medical care even to infants who survive abortion.
- In July, Planned Parenthood fired their new president Dr. Leanna Wen for attempting to focus less on hyper-political support of abortion and more on women's health.
- In August, Planned Parenthood chose to continue performing abortions rather than comply with the Trump administration's Protect Life Rule, rejecting $16 million, and potentially millions more, in federal funds made available through the Title X Family Planning program.
- After winning a pro-abortion majority in the November elections, the Virginia state legislature passed bills radically expanding abortion access: allowing non-physicians to perform abortions and also removing requirements for an ultrasound, a 24-hour waiting period between an ultrasound and an abortion, and informed consent for minors.
- A growing number of Congress members are calling for a repeal of the Hyde Amendment, which prevents tax dollars from directly funding abortions.
- Even Planned Parenthood's annual report confirmed they are prioritizing abortions over any other health service, with not only an expanded profit margin but also an increase in the number of abortions performed.
Their tactics have not changed in 2020. In just the last few weeks, our experts worked with allies in Congress to stop Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and pro-abortion legislators from including abortion funding and expansion in the emergency coronavirus relief bills.
These events have revealed a deepening divide over abortion. This stark contrast proves abortion is not settled law in the hearts and minds of Americans.
At FRC, we are dedicated to accelerating the momentum for life as we work with the current administration to advance pro-life policies.
We will provide lawmakers with model legislation to ensure bills are well-crafted and uphold the dignity of the child and the mother.
And FRC will keep concerned citizens like you informed about this life and death issue through our various media efforts. One of our online resources we make available to you is an interactive map (at frc.org/prolifemaps) documenting FRC's analysis of key pro-life policies and how your state ranks in protecting life.
Will you support FRC's ongoing efforts to build a culture of life? Your situation may require your donation to be smaller than usual. But no matter how small, your contribution will help us advance the pro-life momentum. If you would like to make a donation by phone, please call 1-800-225-4008 during normal business hours.
