This Monday, I joined the nation in remembrance to honor the brave individuals who have given their lives in service to our country. Many have made sacrifices to protect our freedom, and some have given everything. This is the truest form of love, and all we can do in return is remember them for what they have given. To the service men and women who continue to preserve our liberty, thank you.  May God bless you.

• My Washington, D.C. office hosted over 100 students from Lufkin High School this past Tuesday. These bright young minds were able to witness first-hand our legislative system with a tour of the Capitol building. Congratulations to these individuals for taking part in such an enriching educational experience. Thank you, Lufkin High School, for visiting!
• Congratulations to Terri Jo Pruitt of Cushing I.S.D. for winning Paraprofessional of the Year from the Texas Rural Education Association! Terri Jo Pruitt has been working in Cushing I.S.D. as a paraprofessional and bus driver for 29 years. She will be recognized at the TREA Annual Conference in June with an award and stipend. Additionally, Cushing I.S.D. boasts finalists in the categories of Principal of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and School Board of the Year. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to each of these educators for their excellent work, congratulations, Cushing I.S.D.!
• According to the most recent USDA Census of Agriculture released earlier this month, Texas’s 17th Congressional District is in the Top 25 agriculturally producing congressional districts! TX-17 is home to 15,904 individual farms and ranches covering more than 3.9 million acres and producing over $1.9 billion in agricultural goods. I am proud to represent our producers as they keep us fueled, clothed, and fed.

Extreme Weather

As I am certain you all know, extreme weather has hit throughout the month of May. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Governor Abbott’s request for federal disaster relief funds for Walker and Trinity Counties. Resources for those in counties where assistance has been approved can be found on disasterassistance.gov. I hope and pray all of you have stayed safe through these spring storms. My team and I have been in touch with local officials to assist our communities secure federal relief.

U.S. Service Academy Applications

Applications for a nomination to a U.S. Service Academy Class of 2029 will open June 1. To receive a 2024 Service Academy Application Packet, please contact Tori Magers at [email protected]. The opportunity to nominate exceptional young men and women from Texas’s 17th Congressional District to be considered for appointment into a service academy is one my greatest privileges. If you are interested in receiving a nomination, I recommend that you refine all areas to the highest standard of preparation, as the process is greatly competitive. Good luck to all applicants!
