Every day of the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed acts of Hoosier ingenuity, compassion and generosity.

 

Today we learned that Hoosier companies—in every corner of our state—are stepping up in a big way to create personal protective equipment (PPE) for our doctors, nurses and all Hoosier healthcare workers on the front lines. 

 

Hoosier companies have refitted their operations and have bolstered Indiana’s PPE supply with orders of:

• 1,000,000 face masks
• 763,000 face shields
• 141,000 gloves
• 68,000 gowns
• 10,000 goggles
• 6,700 bottles of hand sanitizer

Indiana has already received and distributed 375,000 pieces of PPE from this order and expects to receive 150,000 more pieces this week! 

 

All told, these companies will produce over 2 million PPE items, ensuring those caring for Hoosiers infected with COVID-19 have the tools they need to do their jobs safely.

 

Hoosiers are putting their families and their neighbors before themselves. It is inspiring to see the number of acts of generosity happening throughout Indiana.

 

And, while we’re inspired by this we’re not surprised. 

 

This has been the Indiana way for over 200 years.

Governor Holcomb reminded us that we’re still in the first quarter of our response to COVID-19, but we know how the next three quarters are going to play out. 

 

Your actions have made a positive difference on where we are today. Indiana got at this early, acted quickly and we learned very early that a good defense will allow us to get to an equally productive offense that much quicker. 

 

We’ll return to life as “normal” in the months ahead. We are one day closer, and there’s only one way to get there – together.
