Hi John,

After Rishi Sunak’s surprise election announcement last Wednesday, leaders of the Labour, Conservative and many other parties will be pulling together their manifestoes to take to the country.

With a general election fast approaching, there has never been a better time to show these leaders that we want to see them take bold action on the climate crisis.

Whoever is in government in July, we’re going to keep pushing the Fossil Fuel Treaty and demanding that they plan the end to the fossil fuel era, quickly and fairly.

But right now, we want to signal to major party leaders that people in the UK want to see them act to end fossil fuels. That’s why on Monday we’ll be sending them our petition about the Fossil Fuel Treaty, and the names of everyone who has signed it.

The more signatures we have, the more powerful this will be. Can you sign our petition today and send a message to party leaders, that we want to see them promise bold and powerful action on fossil fuels in their manifestoes?
I'll sign
We must push our political leaders to take greater action on climate now – the climate crisis won’t wait. In the last few months alone, floods have ravaged Kenya and other parts of East Africa. In India this week, Delhi has recorded its highest ever temperature of 52.3°C.

We know increased extreme weather is being driven by producing and burning fossil fuels. And the risks of these toxic substances don’t end there.

In the UK, air pollution is the greatest environmental risk to public health. It’s linked to slower lung development in children and increased dementia in older adults. And the most deprived groups usually live in the most polluted areas.

We must urgently phase out fossil fuels, but if we don’t plan the process properly, we risk chaos that will likely hit people who have already experienced the sharp end of inequality the hardest.

Phasing out fossil fuels is non-negotiable if we are to secure a healthy, livable planet and a more equal world for people in the global south, ordinary people in the UK and future generations to come.

The Fossil Fuel Treaty is a bold and workable proposal to deliver this. We want party leaders seeking your vote at the general election to know that it’s a proposal you support and care about. Now is the moment to send the message that if they want your support, their manifesto should include a plan to phase out fossil fuels.

On Monday, we’ll be delivering our petition, and the names of everyone who has signed it, to party leaders. Sign the petition today to have your name included.

Thank you

It’s time to stop big corporations ruling our world

While much of the world suffers from a cost of living crisis, the five biggest corporations are earning more than a quarter of the world's population. We exist as part of a global movement to challenge corporate power and promote sustainable alternatives.
