Dear John
During a housing and cost-of-living crisis, the Albanese Government has shockingly written a $600 million cheque for the NRL to introduce an 18th team based in Papua New Guinea. This spending is outrageous and has infuriated many Australians.
Don’t get us wrong: a lot of Australians love their sport, particularly footy. But not a single Australian (except Albo) would agree that a $600 million stack of taxpayers' cash going to a foreign country for their footy team is a wise decision, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.
Let’s look at this. Using Albo’s own figures, $600 million could build 8000 new homes. It would provide for a new regional hospital or at least half a dozen new high schools. It could buy a new police academy, or arm and uniform hundreds of new police to make our streets safer. But instead, Albo has seen fit to give the millionaires at the NRL $600 million for a new team in their competition.

Imagine the cost savings on your power bill if the federal government invested $600million in a clean coal fired power station or contributed to the building of a nuclear generator. No, instead Albo thinks it’s cool to fund a rugby league team based in PNG.
It’s despicable to think a Prime Minister would be so neglectful of his country in such an outlandish way. The NRL has ample funds available to throw at a new team; it is a commercial enterprise. The executives of the NRL, filled with Labor mates like former Labor Minister Kate Jones and Peter Beattie, have combined remuneration packages worth millions of dollars.
Footy players earn millions in sponsorship and through their contracts. The NRL is not a poor organisation that needs taxpayer funds to prop it up.
Anthony Albanese needs to get his priorities in order: helping Australians in need rather than helping wealthy sporting codes which need none. As reported in news outlets, the social media response to Labor’s decision has upset more than a few people.

A second added: “Why the f..k are we paying so much just to barely survive? Food. RENT. Petrol. Everything, and now 600 million of OUR tax dollars goes to this bullsh.t? Where was the f…ing vote?”
A third wrote: “We’re trying to pay the power bill and he’s robbing us for sports?”
