Hi John,

Last month, we had news out of Stony Brook University that filled me with hope that science and technology can help in our current crisis. I wanted to share this with you.

Screenshot of a Facebook post by Stony Brook Medicine from March 25 at 2:02 p.m. There are three photos of students wearing 3D-printed face shields they made in the lab Nancy helped found. The text of the post says ‘‘Hot off the ‘press’. Thanks to Stony Brook University’s iCREATE lab, we have a batch of 3D-printed face shields! Full story: https://go.stonybrookmedicine.edu/iCREATE’’

In these hard times, it is truly great to see some positive news! The iCreate Technology Lab at Stony Brook has been creating face shields to protect the health of our medical professionals.

While primarily an engine for entrepreneurship and innovation, I am thrilled the technology in the iCreate Lab is doing good work to help our medical professionals working on the frontline of this crisis.

The face shields are medically compliant and include replaceable parts to ensure our medical personnel have access to sanitary personal protective equipment. Gathering supplies they bought at local stores, the iCreate lab has now distributed 2,500 face shields to the Stony Brook University Hospital -- and they're working quickly to make more.

I’m so proud to have been part of the founding of Stony Brook University’s iCREATE lab. Since we started it 5 years ago, the lab has provided students with the tools to build, innovate, and redefine technological boundaries.

As a scientist, I have spent my life solving complex problems and helping Stony Brook students learn how to use evidence-based reasoning and innovation to tackle challenges. I look forward to bringing my experience to Washington after we win in November because Suffolk County deserves better.

Thanks for being part of our team to flip NY-01.

We couldn’t do this without you.

Best,
Nancy
