This is an email from Jane PAC’s Director of Organizing and Digital Engagement, Dan, about our plans for implementing a robust field program this election cycle. We’d love it if you took the time to read the entire thing, but if you’re short on time and want to make a quick & immediate impact, please consider making a small donation to Jane PAC to fund our on-the-ground organizing efforts this year. We’re nearly 5 months out from Election Day, and the window of opportunity is quickly closing to fund our pro-climate organizing efforts. Please contribute whatever you can here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/jane-bax-email

Hey John, it’s Dan with the Jane Fonda Climate PAC. 👋

If you’ve been keeping up with our emails, you know we’re gearing up for a big push this election cycle. Why? Because when it comes to combating the fossil fuel industry's grip on our politics, good intentions aren’t enough. We need a solid, actionable plan and financial backing to bring it to life.

We’re building a network of volunteers who are ready to canvass, phone bank, and engage voters in every way possible. We have a few ambitious goals for this undertaking. First, we need to ensure that pro-climate voters in our most important districts know what’s at stake this November when it comes to climate action — and where their candidates’ stances are on advancing climate policy.

And, just as importantly, we need to make sure that people who know these stakes actually go out and vote. I don’t know about you, but it seems like every week there is a new poll or study that comes out explaining how more and more people are starting to become concerned about the future of our climate crisis — and yet, essential climate policies continue to languish year after year.

This is where a robust field organizing program comes into play.

While sophisticated media strategies and fancy advertisements play an important role in informing the voting public about candidates, referendums and other ballot measures and persuading people to support a campaign, increasing voter turnout is actually a bit simpler. The more direct one-on-one conversations we can have with voters about the basic mechanics of voting, the more likely it is that they will actually cast their ballot. We will be talking more about this in future emails as time goes on, but for now I have an important ask for you.

As effective as this sort of on-the-ground voter contact is, a robust field program isn’t cheap, John. From accessing basic voter data to bringing on additional staff capacity to help recruit, train, and manage volunteers, there are some up-front costs that we need to invest in now to make the impact we need come Election Day.

While my role here at the PAC these days includes a diverse portfolio that includes digital communications and organizing volunteers, I have a very special place in my heart for field organizing. Back in 2018, I was on the ground for Beto's campaign in Texas, starting as a field organizer covering the greater Lubbock, TX area and eventually working my way up to GOTV Director. While a few years have gone by, I will always remember fondly how our team managed to mobilize an unprecedented number of volunteers across the state, including hundreds of volunteer leaders who helped manage thousands of other volunteers. I know that may be a weird example to use for this email, since we ultimately lost to… the Junior Senator from Texas who I won’t name here. At the end of the day, while we didn’t win, we were closer than I would have imagined if you were to ask me in 2017.

But that experience taught me the sheer power of grassroots organizing and what can be accomplished when an organization invests in the necessary infrastructure to convert broad grassroots enthusiasm into voter turnout. A strong field program is essential to running a successful campaign, especially when up against the deep pockets of Big Oil. The fossil fuel giants are pouring resources into our elections, thinking they can outspend us to maintain control. What they aren’t accounting for is people like us — passionate, determined, and relentless in our pursuit of a liveable future.

Here’s where you come in: A contribution from you today will go a long way in bolstering our field operations. We need to fund essential tools and resources — things like voter outreach software, training materials for volunteers, and multilingual materials.

Every dollar you contribute ensures our volunteers on the ground have what they need to amplify our pro-climate message.

We're ready to roll up our sleeves and do the hard work, but we can't pull this off without you. Let’s show Big Oil that they might have the money, but we have the people.
