Hi, I’m Abigail Spanberger — current Member of Congress, candidate for Governor of Virginia, and a proud Emerge alum!

When women ask me about running for office, I tell them about my experience with the Emerge training program. Emerge helped give me the confidence to run and win. Will you contribute $10 or more to help recruit and train more Democratic women?

After first serving as a federal law enforcement officer and then working undercover as a CIA case officer to keep our country safe, I chose to serve our country in another way: running for Congress. I wanted to use my background and experience to craft sound policy, get things done, and deliver for my community.

When I was considering running for public office, Emerge played an important role in my journey. Thanks to Emerge, I was suddenly in a room full of dedicated, determined, and strong women who were considering entering the political arena for the first time. And when I eventually made clear that I was ready to run for Congress, they didn’t hesitate. They said, “Do it.”

That’s what sets Emerge apart. You’re surrounded by women who are looking to get involved in their communities. These women are looking to lead — not looking to sit on the sidelines.

When I was first elected to Congress in 2018, I was proud to be the first Democrat elected to serve my Virginia district since 1968 — and I was honored to be the first-ever woman to represent my district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Emerge provided the early training that was needed to not only run for office — but to win.

And at this moment when our rights and our democracy are under attack, we need more Democratic women at the decision-making table. Emerge’s National Boot Camp is designed specifically for those who are running for office right now, and we need to make sure that Emerge has the resources to provide the crucial strategy and training to help more women serve their communities and defend our rights. But it takes significant resources to prepare a new cohort, and they can’t win in 2024 without your support.
