Hey folks, it's Makenzie. Ilhan's finance director.
I'm reaching out because over the holiday weekend, I made a difficult decision that I felt you deserved to know about.
As we get closer and closer to primary day, it's become clear that in order to continue organizing our progressive coalition in Minnesota's 5th district — and to make sure we have the financial resources to do so — we needed to significantly scale up our organizing and advertising budgets.
Now, as you know, running a campaign isn't cheap. Especially when facing off against billionaires like Harlan Crow and right-wing dark money groups like AIPAC the way Ilhan is.
Long story short: The money wasn't in our budget for May — but I gave the green light anyway.
It was a risk. There's no doubt about that. But this is just one of many increasingly difficult decisions we'll have to make in the months ahead if we're going to win.
That's why I made a bet that if I asked, this movement would come together and help us fill the gap. And I'm really hoping you will — today. Not just for me, or for Ilhan, but for everyone across the country who cares about our movement's fight for justice in Congress and beyond.
So please: Can you make a contribution — of any amount you can — to stand with Ilhan and our campaign today? Every donation ahead of this week's end-of-month deadline will help us catch up while we make critical investments in this campaign.

Like I said, this was a difficult decision, and please know that because of the way we're funding this campaign it wasn't one I made lightly.
But one of the many things that separates Ilhan from our opponents in this race is that she knows our movement always has her back when it matters most.
That includes you. Thank you for chipping in today if you can.
In solidarity,
Makenzie Richardson
Finance Director
