John,
In May, we embark on a journey of reflection on Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month—a time when we celebrate our diverse communities' rich cultural diversity, resilience, and contributions.
This month holds profound significance, serving as a testament to the strength and unity that have characterized the Asian American and Pacific Islander experience in the United States. Throughout history, our communities have faced myriad challenges, from discrimination and prejudice to systemic barriers that have sought to marginalize our voices. Yet, it was out of necessity that we unified, collectively combining our voices for progress and equality.
The legacy of our ancestors is one of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. From the early immigrants who toiled on plantations and railroads to the activists who led movements for civil rights and social justice, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have continuously forged pathways for future generations.
As we navigate through this pivotal moment in our nation's history, marked by a presidential election and ongoing debates about the direction of our country, it is crucial that we recognize the importance of our collective voices at all levels of government. Our participation in the democratic process is not only a civic duty but also a means of ensuring that our communities' concerns and aspirations are heard and addressed.
Beyond the presidential election, our engagement in local and state politics is equally vital. These are the arenas where policies directly impact our daily lives, from access to education and healthcare to economic opportunities and environmental sustainability.

Governor Kotek “It was an honor to sign this year’s #AANHPI Heritage Month Proclamation with Oregon Rises Above Hate at the beautiful Lan Su Chinese Garden in downtown Portland”
This month, let us celebrate our heritage and honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by committing ourselves to active participation in the political process. By registering to vote, educating ourselves and others, and mobilizing our communities, we can effectuate meaningful change and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable society.
Join us as we celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and recommit ourselves to the principles of unity, progress, and justice for all.
Warm regards,
The AAPI Caucus
