JOIN WHEN WE ALL VOTE IN CELEBRATING THE RISE IN AAPI VOTING POWER

As we close out Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we asked Bretman Rock, Co-Chair of When We All Vote, social media personality and activist, about how his influence extends beyond social media and into the realm of voting rights. Here is what he had to say:

Q: As a When We All Vote Co-Chair, how has your identity and culture influenced your perspective on the importance of voting?

A: As a Filipino immigrant who grew up in Hawaii, I experienced firsthand the power of diverse voices and the strength of community, which inspires me in everything I do.

Being a part of the AAPI community, I see the challenges we face. From underrepresentation in media and government to voter suppression, these experiences fuel my commitment to empowering others to vote. Our vote is our voice and can shape a future where everyone, regardless of their background, has an equal say in our democracy. That’s why I want to keep sharing our stories and celebrating our triumphs, and continue blazing a trail for other Asian Americans to follow.

Q: The Asian American and Pacific Islander communities are the fastest-growing voting bloc in the United States, and a projected 15 million Asian Americans will be eligible to vote in 2024. What’s your message to AAPI voters?

A: It’s simple: don't underestimate the power of your vote. As our community grows, so does our influence and ability to shape the future. We gotta use our power to advocate for issues that matter to us — whether it's immigration, climate, education, healthcare, or social justice.

Q: What about our community brings you joy?

A: The combination of diversity, unity, and resilience makes our community so beautiful to me. We are all so different, and we continue to rise, support each other, and make history. Seeing us succeed and make our mark in different fields, from the arts to business to politics, fills me with joy.
