The Lincoln Project

Friend,

We have to say, today is one we’ll look back on fondly. We find every Trump loss incredibly sweet, but this one came with a certain zing. A jury found Donald J. Trump guilty of felony business fraud involving having had an affair with a porn star, trying to pay her off, and then lying about it to every voter in America.

We’ve been waiting for this. We’ve always known this fool is guilty as sin, but now there’s a real designation. His gravestone could realistically read “Terrible businessman, even worse President, convicted felon”. That’s gold.

(Are you giggling to yourself about the meanest epitaph possible? Yeah, us too.)

But let’s get more serious. We still have a TON of work to do. Here are the two numbers everyone needs to remember: 53% and 1/3.

53% of swing voters in battleground states said in a recent poll they aren't voting for Trump if he's convicted of a crime.

Not only that: 1/3 of Republican voters have said they're not voting for Trump if he's convicted of a crime. If those numbers hold, Trump’s toast. But we can't take that for granted. Our job is to make sure that every voter can’t miss the truth. We can’t let Trump lie his way out of this.

Trump thrives when he creates a bubble of alternative reality where he can lie his way out of anything. Truth has no meaning to him. (This may be why Truth Social stock has tanked, but that's neither here nor there). You can bet he's going to try to delegitimize this. So will all his MAGA sycophants. They'll attack everyone but the criminal. Because they know if they can throw enough mud and confuse enough people, Trump's still got a chance.

Even though we may not get to see the orange messiah in an orange jumpsuit, we can definitely make sure we don’t see him in the White House.

Even though he’s a felon now, our mission remains the same: stop him in November. Chip in to help us achieve it >>
