Dear John,
With just over five months left before Election Day, we’re suddenly facing a big, big problem in our fight to save democracy from Donald Trump.
The problem is called TikTok. (And no, I’m not talking about the Chinese government harvesting our data.)
I’m talking about the fact that there is more than twice as much pro-Trump content as pro-Biden content on TikTok.
Worse yet, there’s evidence that this TikTok gap is having a real impact on voters. Multiple recent polls show that 2020 Biden voters who have switched to Trump are disproportionately likely to be TikTok users.
Here’s the good news: The team here at Inequality Media Civic Action identified TikTok as a top priority more than a year, and it’s really paying off. We’ve posted 100 new videos since the start of the year, and our latest viral video cracked one million views. Overall, our TikTok views are now up 116% since January, with engagements up 187% – and with your help, we can keep cutting into Trump’s lead on TikTok.
But to keep up this pace, we’re counting on the donations of grassroots supporters like you. Will you donate $5 to help Inequality Media Civic Action get the truth out and reach the voters we need to win on TikTok?
Perhaps you haven’t noticed Trump dominating TikTok because you, like me, don’t spend a lot of time scrolling through the videos on that platform.
But you know who is on TikTok? Young people, and these are the voters who will decide the election. According to the Pew Research Center, 62% of U.S. adults aged 18 to 29 use TikTok, and one-third regularly use it as a source of news.
Unfortunately, far too many progressive groups have been slow to adopt TikTok. Digital media expert Kyle Tharp looked at the social media presence of 20 major national progressive advocacy groups and found that only 55% of them post on TikTok weekly, and 10 have fewer than 10,000 followers on the platform.
Because the team at Inequality Media Civic Action has spent the last two years mastering the TikTok game, we’re in a position to help rebalance the scales.
We’re also killing it on other social media platforms. Our Instagram views have doubled since the start of the year, and our most viral short videos on Instagram Reels have cracked 2 million views.
All this work requires significant funding, and with time running out before the November election, we need to ramp up our operation now.
Will you donate $5 to help get the truth out and fight back against Trump’s TikTok dominance and win?
Thank you for joining with us,
Robert Reich
