Hi John,

Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court stripped protections away from millions of acres of American wetlands. This paves the way for them to be polluted or destroyed.

Without federal protection, states have been put in the driver's seat. This means 50 sets of state laws that change with every election cycle. Some states have already stripped away state-level protections, including North Carolina where millions of acres of wetlands are left completely vulnerable.

EDF has ramped up efforts to restore wetland protections by educating the public on their value and engaging with decision-makers. We’re even helping rebuild the wetlands of the Mississippi River Delta in one of the largest ecosystem restoration projects ever attempted.

We rely on members like you, John, to provide the funding needed to keep this critical work moving forward. Will you support our efforts to restore wetlands and protect vulnerable ecosystems by donating today?

Wetlands are incredibly productive ecosystems that save lives and protect our communities. They help:

  • Reduce hurricane damage, acting as a shock absorber for violent storms;
  • Protect communities from floods, absorbing rainfall and flood waters;
  • Promote clean water by filtering out dangerous pollutants before they enter our state’s rivers and streams.
  • Capture and store carbon, slowing climate change; and
  • House up to 40% of the world’s species, including 75% of all commercially harvested fish and shellfish species in the U.S

As climate change worsens, storms intensify and flood risks increase, it’s clear we need wetlands now more than ever. Donate today to support our efforts to protect wetlands and the communities and ecosystems that depend on them.
