CHBA BC Sends Letter to BC Government to Oppose Prompt Payment
CHBA BC

Last week, CHBA BC submitted a letter to Attorney General Niki Sharma on the working group established to discuss prompt payment legislation in BC. The letter highlights CHBA BC's concerns around the overall consultation process, with particular emphasis on the disproportionate representation of stakeholders engaged in the process. You can read it here.

The letter also reiterates and expands on concerns raised in CHBA BC's last letter to the Attorney General regarding the failure of the working group to first assess and evaluate the potential impacts of prompt payment legislation prior to drafting it.

This is of significant concern as prompt payment legislation could introduce another layer of regulatory and administrative burden for small- and medium-sized homebuilders and developers, which may hinder the ability to deliver on much-needed housing supply.

Canada's Foremost Event for Net Zero Homes is Coming to Richmond
CHBA National

There's still time to register for the Net Zero Leadership Summit taking place June 10 – 13 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond.

Hosted by CHBA National, the Net Zero Summit is an in-person interactive event for the residential construction and renovation industry, where participants will gain insight and explore innovative, industry-leading efforts.

This event is not a typical conference where you simply listen to people talking on a stage. This is a Leadership Summit, where participants are part of the dialogue; interacting and providing input and feedback during each session to work through the opportunities and challenges.

Focused on valuable content and participant engagement, the Summit will convene leaders in the industry such as builders, renovators, energy advisors, product manufacturers, service providers, utilities, developers, as well as government, and academia from across Canada.

'Likely' Concrete Strike has Metro Vancouver Construction Industry Bracing for Delays
Vancouver Sun

Two years after a strike disrupted Metro Vancouver’s concrete industry, creating major construction delays, local builders are now fearing a possible repeat.

In 2022, a five-week work stoppage was blamed for taking out as much as a third of the region's concrete supply, causing cost escalations and delays on all kinds of projects including housing construction and the $2.8 billion Broadway subway line.

Now, following a recent strike vote, some industry leaders want the provincial government to take a more active role to prevent another lengthy disruption at the same concrete plants.
