John,
Frontline workers — nurses, janitors, delivery drivers, fast-food restaurant cooks, pharmacists, postal workers, grocery store clerks, farmworkers and more — are the ones keeping this country running through an unprecedented pandemic.
They’re also contracting COVID-19 at a much higher rate than the general public because too many are being forced to go to work without the appropriate equipment, safety standards, or job protections.
Today, Elizabeth Warren and Ro Khanna introduced a sweeping plan to protect all the workers who enable the rest of us to safely shelter-in-place.

While Trump and Republicans in Congress have bailed out the cruise industry, the airline industry and propped up big businesses, essential workers are still waiting for the protections and relief they deserve.
The next coronavirus relief package to pass Congress should put the interests of the nearly 60 million Americans working around the clock to keep us safe and healthy first. We’re joining Senator Warren and Rep. Khanna in calling for an Essential Workers Bill of Rights that will ensure that workers have:
-
Health and safety protections, including health care, so we don’t put them at even greater and unnecessary risk.
-
Adequate compensation, like “hazard pay,” to recognize the selfless contributions they are making to our health and our economy.
-
Protections for collective bargaining agreements.
-
Universal paid sick, family and medical leave so essential workers can care for themselves, their families, or other dependents.
-
Protections for whistleblowers so that workers who experience unsafe working conditions can identity their concerns without fear of retaliation.
-
An end to worker misclassification such as classifying workers as “independent contractors” to avoid giving them the benefits they’ve earned.
-
Guaranteed child care to ensure essential workers have access to reliable, safe, healthy, and high-quality child care.
-
A place at the table in setting safety and compensation standards in response to the coronavirus to ensure we are better prepared going forward.
-
Accountability for corporations so that taxpayers’ dollars go to help workers, not wealthy CEOs, shareholders, or political cronies.
Without these essential workers, we would not have a path out of this pandemic. It’s on us to raise our voices and make sure leaders in Washington are listening.
Add your name to our petition in support of Elizabeth Warren and Ro Khanna’s Essential Workers Bill of Rights. The louder we get, the harder it will be for Congress to ignore us.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
