We've officially launched the Green Party’s general election campaign. Please give what you can so we can get our message out.

John,

Can you believe that in exactly five weeks from today that we’ll be heading to the polling stations? We’ve had to wait but finally – the general election is on and we are ready!

We are sure you can tell how excited we are for this moment! Why? Because at the Green Party we’ve got something to offer that no other party has – real hope and real change.

Let’s face it, this election is pretty historic. The polling is clear that we’re going to see the back of the Tories and the reaction to that from people across the country is: about time!

This has been the most chaotic and destructive period of government any of us can remember. So what we need, what the country is crying out for, is change. Real change.

But the people we have been talking to on doorsteps are clear that Labour just isn’t offering that. That’s why it is so important that when Labour do form the next government, they are pushed to be more ambitious and braver so they actually make change that benefits people’s lives.

That’s what Green MPs can do.

Co-leaders at the campaign launch.

You’ll hear more detail of our plans in the coming weeks but we are very clear what are priorities are: our NHS, housing, climate and nature, public services and the quality of our water. All are in crisis, a mess with no solutions in sight.

But with Green MPs in the next government there will be real hope and real change.

When it comes to healthcare that means defending our NHS, not inviting the private sector in through the front door as we’ve seen from Labour. Free healthcare is a fundamental principle and we would make sure it is funded properly so that everybody can see an NHS dentist.

We will make the tax system fairer so that we can afford to invest in the people who work in our hospitals and surgeries, so that they stay here, bringing down waiting lists so people don’t miss out on life-saving operations.

You can also be sure we will keep the pressure on Labour over fair treatment for renters and for warm, secure, affordable homes for everybody. We would push for the right homes to be built at the right price in the right place in consultation with the communities that need them.

John, although the polls are showing that we will soon be shot of this awful Conservative government, the incremental change Labour have put on the table just isn’t going to cut it to get this country back on track.

We need more, we need Greens to drive that real change forward.

Target candidates Sian Berry, Carla Denyer, Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns joined by Green Party campaigners at the campaign launch.

Real hope and real change means looking forward to a time when we can safely enjoy our beaches and rivers again – without worrying that they might get ill or that our precious marine life is being damaged beyond repair.

And it means not cosying up to the fossil fuel lobby and abandoning commitments on climate targets. Only by having Greens in Parliament can we be confident that we will have strong voices to stop the backsliding on urgent climate action.

You can trust the Greens to protect communities against flooding, cleaning up our filthy water, and making sure all our children have clean air to breathe.

With Greens in the next parliament you can be sure of real hope and real change for climate and nature.

We are aiming to win at least four green MPs in five weeks time - in Bristol, the new constituency of Waveney Valley on the Norfolk, Suffolk border, in Brighton Pavilion - to succeed the fantastic Caroline Lucas – and in North Herefordshire.

We couldn’t be more proud of our candidates or of our offer to voters.

We are so ready for this election and feel a sense of privilege every time we knock on someone’s door and they tell us they’re putting their faith in us and voting green.

On 4 July voters will have the opportunity to choose real hope and real change.

Let’s go.

Thank you for your support.
