In New York City alone, workers lose roughly up to $1 billion to wage theft every year. Wage theft commonly affects low-income workers and immigrant workers, and occurs most frequently in low-wage industries like restaurants and hospitality, janitorial services, and healthcare.

NCLEJ is fighting to turn back the tide against worker exploitation and secure better protections, wages, and conditions for low-income workers. In 2023, we sued the New York State Department of Labor to force them to reopen their investigation after they suddenly closed hundreds of unpaid wage claims filed by home health aides.

Our legal efforts ensure that marginalized people have a voice in the Courts.
