Hi friends,

We wanted to kick off this month’s newsletter with a refresher on two important safety topics heading into the summer: safe firearm storage and suicide prevention . Kids will be spending a lot more time at home this season, and we want everyone to have fun while staying safe. Safer schools are our mission; can you make a contribution today to support our fight? Safe Firearm Storage

Safe storage is about “employing precautions and multiple safeguards that provide an additional barrier against unauthorized use” (Project Child Safe). It is also vital to store firearms where they are not likely to be stolen. These are the minimum requirements for safe storage by responsible firearms owners.

Suicide Prevention

While on a much-needed break from school, many kids can experience loneliness and isolation when separated from their friends during summer break. But for family members or friends, it can be difficult to know the level of intervention someone may need.

The National Institute of Health has five steps for helping someone in emotional pain:

We feel it’s imperative that people have the resources they need to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Sante Fe and Uvalde

This month marked two major anniversaries of school violence.

Six years ago, ten innocent lives were tragically lost at Santa Fe High School in Texas on May 18, 2018, leaving an indelible mark on countless others. The wounds were still fresh from the Parkland tragedy just three months prior, making this event even more incomprehensible.

Just one week later, we also mark two years since the heartbreaking loss of twenty-one precious souls at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. This devastating event, the deadliest school shooting since Parkland, spurred national outrage and, importantly, helped Stand with Parkland to push through a bill which had our organization’s DNA embedded in it, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The proximity of these anniversaries, merely a week apart, underscores the urgent need for action. Yet, the lack of significant measures from Texas officials is disheartening. Despite this, our commitment to advocating for change remains unwavering.

As we remember the innocent lives lost and stand in solidarity with their families, we must honor their memories with action. Change is possible, friend, but we can’t keep waiting for the next tragedy to take action . The best way to honor the lives of those taken in Parkland, in Santa Fe, in Uvalde, and across our country is to support the movement for safer schools today. [[link removed]]

Please turn your concern to action by joining Stand with Parkland to make positive, pragmatic changes to help prevent another tragic school shooting. We must come together as an American family to make progress on the local, state, and federal levels – there is clearly much work to be done, friends. If you are able, please consider donating to support our work. Every dollar has a real impact on school safety in our country. [[link removed]]

Our voice is strongest when we speak as one.
