So, what did we see at the WisGOP Convention? A succession of MAGA extremists—including the most iconic MAGAites of them all: fake electors.
Four fake electors who participated in the MAGA plot to overthrow the 2020 election took the stage at the convention in Appleton—and
handed out awards on behalf of their state party!
Meanwhile, keynote speaker Florida GOP Congressman Byron Donalds has said, if he were VP, he wouldn’t commit to certifying election results.
Ron Johnson had his own take on certifying the results if Trump loses: “we have to see exactly what happens,” he said, and “we…might have to investigate.”
And Eric Hovde has endorsed—and been endorsed by—Donald Trump. Which explains why he’s spread conspiracy theories contending votes by seniors in nursing homes in 2020 were illegitimate.
The reality is simple: if you believe in the peaceful transfer of power—the most basic requirement for a functional democracy—then you can’t be in Trump’s corner.
This is what we’re up against in November—a GOP party that won’t guarantee they’ll believe the results of the election. The fact is, the politicians on stage at the GOP convention this year have all made peace with siding with the candidate who chose violence over our democracy.
Two weeks ago, we saw today’s Republican Party of Wisconsin in its most distilled form. Their politicians believe that you, the voters, shouldn’t decide who runs this country.
