**THE FORUM DAILY**
The future of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) remains unclear, affecting recipients and their communities, as Aditi Lamba of Spectrum News 1 reports. ??
DACA has faced several legal challenges since it began in 2012. Court rulings have blocked the processing of new applications for years, as Lamba notes. And ongoing legal challenges generate uncertainty for current recipients.
Speaking of uncertainty, many recipients are reporting government delays in their DACA renewals, reports Andrea Castillo??of the Los Angeles Times . That can cost them their jobs at least temporarily, as is the case for Miguel, 32, who is on temporary unpaid leave for three months and counting while waiting for his renewal.??
It also was the case for Irma Varela, a Wisconsin mother of three and career specialist pursuing a degree in social work, reports Jana Rose Schleis of The Cap Times . Varela's renewal finally went through this month after her own monthslong wait. ??
"This is my home.??I've??been here for most of my life," Varela said. "This is where I had my children.??They're??Wisconsinites.??They're??cheeseheads."??
In an op-ed in the Tampa Bay Times, University of South Florida researcher Thomas J. Rachko Jr. addresses the mental toll on communities affected by this kind of legal limbo. "It is becoming increasingly clear that we cannot allow more lives to languish in fear and uncertainty for any longer," he writes.??
