Judge in Trump’s Case Tells Jury He Would Treat a Split Verdict as Unanimous
Townhall: The jury is deliberating, and we should be prepared for a conviction. That’s not to say there isn’t reasonable doubt all over the hush money trial involving Donald Trump, but this whole trial was a circus from the start so it’s unsurprising that its finish was more of a clown show. The judge’s instructions to the jury is aberrant, with some folks commenting on social media that these guidelines for the jury wouldn’t be legal in Zimbabwe. It will only take four jurors to convict Trump ( Townhall). Reporter John Roberts: Judge Merchan just told the jury that they do not need unanimity to convict. 4 could agree on one crime, 4 on a different one, and the other 4 on another. He said he would treat 4-4-4 as a unanimous verdict ( X).

CNN Analyst Finds Judge Merchan’s Jury Instructions “Bizarre”
Townhall: A CNN analyst referred to Judge Juan Merchan’s handling of critical jury instructions regarding former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal case as “crazy” as jurors wrap up deliberations. David Oscar Markus was shocked to learn how Merchan has handled the case, which accuses Trump of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to the alleged hush money payments he “made” to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Markus explained that jurors are traditionally given written instructions from the case to refer to while deliberating. However, Merchan refused to provide them with a copy of the notes. Instead, jurors will have to ask for instructions to be reread and only have the option of referring to their personal notes taken during the trial ( Townhall). Johnny Maga: An attorney on CNN can’t believe how Judge Merchan handled jury instructions: “The jury must be overwhelmed. To have all of these instructions read to them without them getting a copy… the lawyers were not able to discuss instructions in their closings… which I find bizarre” ( X).

Israel Captures Critical Philadelphi Corridor in Southern Gaza
New York Post: Israel’s military said Wednesday it has seized control of a strategic corridor that runs along the length of Gaza’s border with Egypt, near the city of Rafah, where Israeli forces have been fighting recently. The capture of the area, known as the Philadelphi corridor, signals that Israel has deepened its offensive in southern Gaza, even as calls for restraint have rang out surrounding recent civilian deaths. The move could complicate relations with Egypt, which has complained over Israel’s advance toward its border, including when Israeli forces captured the Rafah border crossing, the only one between Gaza and Egypt ( New York Post). Times of Israel: Along the corridor, adjacent to Rafah, the IDF has located so far some 20 tunnels that cross into Egypt. Hamas has been known to use such tunnels to smuggle weapons into Gaza. The IDF believes Hamas can now no longer smuggle in weapons from Egypt, as the military controls the area ( Times of Israel).

Brazil Recalls Israeli Ambassador Due to War in Gaza
Just the News: Brazil withdrew its ambassador to Israel on Wednesday at the direction of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva following months of tension between the two nations over Israel’s actions in Gaza. The action reportedly came in response to Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz’s decision to summon Meyer to the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem after Lula compared Israel’s actions in Gaza to the Holocaust ( Just the News). Associated Press: Israel says its war in Gaza is a defensive action triggered by Hamas’ unprecedented assault and rejects any comparisons of its offensive to the Holocaust. Earlier this month, Colombia broke diplomatic relations with Israel. Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro had previously suspended purchases of weapons from Israel and had also compared that country’s actions in Gaza to those of Nazi Germany. Also in the region, Bolivia and Belize have also severed diplomatic relations with Israel over the Israel-Hamas war ( Associated Press).

Australia Creates Position for “Men’s Behavior Change”
Daily Wire: Labor Premier Jacinta Allan of Victoria, the second most populous state in Australia, announced on Monday that a new position had been created in her government: “Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change.” Allan selected Tim Richardson, the State Labor MP for Mordialloc, to fill the position. “Tim Richardson will become Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change, continuing the Allan Labor Government’s priority to make Victoria a safer place for women and children and work to end the tragedy of deaths of Victorian women at the hands of men,” Allan stated. “This is the first position of its kind in Australia – and will focus largely on the influence the internet and social media have on boys’ and men’s attitudes towards women and building respectful relationships” ( Daily Wire). Tim Richardson MP: Some pretty hectic reactions here to an important role and Australian first. It will be about modelling positive role models for boys and men and ensuring we break away from gendered based stereotypes and building respectful relationships ( X).

Ukraine Understands Their Time is Nearly Up
Yahoo: While politicians in Britain pontificate, a thousand miles away, outside the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s war with Russia is intensifying. Kyiv has been forced to redirect thousands of troops to the north-eastern part of the front line to fend off Putin’s assault, leaving its defences exposed elsewhere. The war is reaching a critical juncture, as yet again Western interest in aiding Ukraine is at risk of waning. President Zelensky appears to be aware that Ukraine’s time is running out: over the weekend, he called on US president Joe Biden and Chinese premier Xi Jinping to attend the upcoming Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland to advance a “real peace” ( Yahoo).

Athletes Team Up, Tour Across America to “Take Back Title IX”
Our Bodies, Our Sports: Our Bodies, Our Sports today announced the launch of a landmark “Take Back Title IX” Summer 2024 Bus Tour across America featuring former Olympians, NCAA athletes, high school athletes, coaches, and prominent women’s advocates. The tour is the nation’s first and only coalition of women’s advocacy organizations from across the political spectrum fighting to protect women’s sports, will call attention to the Biden administration’s Title IX regulations and the devastating impact the new rules will have on women and the growing threat to women’s equal athletic opportunity, privacy, and safety ( Our Bodies, Our Sports). Townhall Review: We’re going to small towns to talk to the real people. It’s really important that everybody knows that we are fighting for their daughters, for their granddaughters, for their sisters, for every woman in the United States and really worldwide. And it is so important that people know that women’s rights are being erased and that in this new rewrite of Title IX that your girls could be put into and already are bathrooms with fully intact boys and men. And they’re being taught to be quiet about it. And in my mind, what’s happening in that way is we are grooming girls to be sexually assaulted and trafficked ( Townhall Review).

Policy Mandating Schools Inform Parents of Child’s Gender Identity Fails to Reach Ballot in CA
Daily Wire: A proposed policy that would have required California public schools to inform parents if their children change their gender identity has failed to get enough signatures to appear on November’s ballot. Protect Kids California, the parental rights group that launched the ballot measure, announced Tuesday that they had failed to collect enough signatures. The group collected about 400,000 of the 546,651 signatures required to appear on the ballot ( Daily Wire). Protect Kids CA: We want to thank our tens of thousands of supporters and volunteers for this truly historic effort! While it is unfortunate we did not have enough signatures to make the 2024 ballot, we will build off this momentum to continue to fight for the principles set forth in the Protect Kids of California Act ( X).

College Professor Accused of Racism When Accusing a Student of Plagiarism
Daily Wire: A conservative college professor was investigated by his school for alleged racism after he accused a black student of plagiarism. Claremont McKenna College professor William Ascher spent a year as the target of a racism investigation launched after a black student the professor accused of plagiarism filed a discrimination complaint. Ascher was ultimately cleared of racism and asked by the school’s president and administration committee to write his own account of the case. Another black student said it was racist for Ascher to ask the student about the difference between natural forests and plantations in a natural resources course ( Daily Wire).
