Daily Kos Campaigns

Here are some of the most popular and time-sensitive petitions from Daily Kos, the largest online gathering space for progressives.
  • Sign the petition: Elect the president by national popular vote
TARGET: All U.S. states that have not yet joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
Maine has recently joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC)--an agreement between states to award their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the most votes nationally.

Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have joined the NPVIC, with a combined 209 electoral votes. The agreement will go into effect once states and territories with a combined total of 270 electoral votes have joined the compact.

We are calling on all remaining states to join the compact for a truly fair and representative democracy.

  • Sign the petition: Statehood for D.C. now!
    TARGET: Congress
Denying D.C. statehood is a clear case of voter suppression and the perfect example of taxation without representation. Granting statehood to Washington, D.C. would end this injustice. Equality at the ballot box cannot be guaranteed until Congress grants the residents of D.C. the statehood they deserve, making them an equal part of our democratic process.

  • Sign the petition to Congress: Do everything you can to fight voter suppression
    TARGET: Congress
Equal opportunity to vote and participate in our democracy is a fundamental right. Congress has a duty to uphold this freedom by passing legislation that will reinforce and expand the Voting Rights Act.

  • Sign and send the petition: Big Banks must reject Trump’s Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation now
    TARGET: Big Banks
By aligning themselves with Trump’s Project 2025, the powerful Wall Street banks are complicit in endorsing an agenda that stands in stark contrast to the principles of human rights and ethical business practices. Demand Big Banks reject Project 2025

  • Sign the petition: Justices Alito and Thomas must recuse themselves from cases related to Jan. 6
    TARGET: U.S. Supreme Court
We must demand accountability from those who hold the highest offices in our land. Justices Alito and Thomas' actions and conflicts of interest warrant their recusal from any cases involving Donald Trump and January 6. The credibility of our judicial system is at stake.

  • Send a letter to President Biden: Over-the-counter birth control must be covered by insurance–no prescription required
    TARGET: Biden Administration
At last, Opill–a daily, progestin-only birth control pill–is starting to appear on the shelves of drugstores and online retailers nationwide. But we have a hurdle to clear: the Biden Administration must immediately take action to ensure Opill (and any future over-the-counter birth control!) is fully covered.

  • Sign the petition to Robert F. Kennedy Jr: Drop out
    TARGET: RFK Jr.
    'Nuff said.

  • Sign the petition: Judge Aileen Cannon must recuse herself from Trump’s case
    TARGET: Judge Aileen Cannon
Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, has been assigned to oversee the case involving Donald Trump's mishandling (aka stealing) of classified documents. Judge Cannon has already shown her bias over and over, ruling in Trump's favor, causing major trial delays, and raising serious questions about her impartiality.

  • Sign the petition: Term limits for the Supreme Court now!
    TARGET: Congress
The Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act of 2023 has been introduced in Congress. The TERM Act would introduce fixed 18-year terms for current and future Supreme Court justices and establish regular nominations of justices in the first and third years of each presidential term–a necessary, fair, and accountable reform to the judicial system.

  • Sign the petition: Support real solutions to homelessness. Oppose arrests and fines
    TARGET: Congress
In the face of growing homelessness across the United States, we must advocate for policies that respect human dignity rather than punitive measures that further marginalize those with the greatest needs. Arrests and fines serve only to exacerbate the suffering of those without housing or shelter and undermine efforts to address the root causes of homelessness.

Recent legislative efforts to address the issue include the Ending Homelessness Act, a bill that would ensure universal rental assistance for all households in need, and tackle discrimination against renters. Another is the Housing Crisis Response Act, which, if enacted, would be a historic investment in affordable housing.

  • Sign the petition: Protect and expand Social Security by taxing the rich
    TARGET: Congress
We must protect and expand Social Security in order to ensure full benefits for all Americans, and pay for it by requiring millionaires and billionaires to contribute their fair share.

  • Sign the petition: Dissolve the National Rifle Association
    TARGET: NY Attorney General
The NRA is corrupt. Under Wayne LaPierre's leadership, the NRA misused millions of dollars of charitable funds, leading to LaPierre’s resignation and a court ordering him to pay back nearly $4.4 million. This is the tip of a pattern of corruption that has plagued the NRA for years.

  • Signatures needed: I pledge to Get Out the Vote for Democrats in 2024
    TARGET: Everyone you know!
With so much at stake this election, and so few votes determining the outcome, we need willing Democrats and progressives to spend a few hours of their time between now and November writing postcards and sending letters to prospective voters in swing states who lean Democratic but who don’t always turn out to vote. We need you to drop prospective voters a quick note, urging them to cast a ballot this November given everything that is at stake.

  • Sign the petition: Ban members of Congress from buying and selling individual stocks
    TARGET: Congress
We elect our officials to use their position of power to work for the American people, not their personal wealth. Join the fight today to ban members of Congress and their spouses from trading stocks.

  • Sign the petition: Close the gun show loophole and ban assault weapons
    TARGET: President Biden and Congress
The Biden administration has proposed a groundbreaking rule that promises to enhance the safety of our communities by expanding background checks for firearm purchases, including at gun shows and online sales. However, to truly improve our safety, this initiative must be coupled with an unequivocal ban on assault weapons–something which requires congressional action.
