Consumers are wise to the misleading claims that Big Ag sells – that’s why voters and state legislators have passed laws protecting farmed animals from the cruelty of the factory farming industry. 

But Republican lawmakers introduced the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act to curry favor with their Big Ag donors by shielding factory farms from regulation.

The EATS Act, some of which is included in the most recent draft of the Farm Bill, would preempt state regulation of the factory farm and agribusiness industry, including animal welfare, consumer protection labeling, and food safety. The bill could also jeopardize state laws that protect rural communities and preserve our environment. 

The EATS Act must be kept out of this year’s Farm Bill! Send a message to your Senators today asking them to say no to the EATS Act.

The Farm Bill is our country’s cornerstone food and agriculture legislation, renegotiated and passed every five years. If the EATS Act were included in the final version, this would effectively end many state regulations on public health, safety, and animal welfare.  

This deregulation promises to open the gates for Big Ag to get bigger, by giving corporations free rein to use the cheapest, most destructive practices it can with no oversight or accountability.

Food & Water Action is organizing to stop the EATS Act and other harmful, corporate-backed measures from passing in the Farm Bill. The only antidote to entrenched, moneyed power in our political system is people power.
