My name is Steve Kerr. You may know me as coach of the Golden State Warriors, but I am also a dedicated activist and Brady partner, because I know personally what it is like to lose a loved one to gun violence — and I fight every day to prevent anyone else from knowing that loss too.

My father was shot and killed at work 40 years ago, changing my life forever and leaving my family scarred. And unfortunately, stories like mine are all too familiar. And I continue to ask myself: When will our leaders do something?
