John,
Over the holiday weekend, while many Americans were distracted and after the International Court of Justice instructed Israel to cease all military operations in Rafah, Israel launched more than 60 strikes on the refugee city, including dropping multiple 2,000-pound bombs on a “safe zone” of displaced civilians living in tents.
This was an utterly horrific massacre, with people burned alive as well as infants and children decapitated. At least 45 Palestinians were killed, with more injured. It should have never happened, and we cannot let it happen again.
Israel’s government can’t get its story straight: while the IDF claimed Hamas leaders had a base near the humanitarian site, Netanyahu made a statement saying this bombardment was a “mistake.” Regardless, Israel intentionally bombed refugees living in tents – it was an unjustifiable, heinous war crime, and Israel MUST be held accountable.
President Biden repeatedly said that attacking Rafah was a red line. Israel has since attacked this humanitarian zone numerous times, with tanks now in the city center — but as of yesterday, the White House says Netanyahu still hasn’t crossed the red line.
The line has been crossed, time and time again. We cannot let our government continue spending our tax dollars to send billions of dollars, bombs, and weapons to Israel to enable their genocide against Palestinians.
We cannot and will not sit idly by while our government enables this carnage. Netanyahu and his far-right government must be stopped — it’s time for President Biden to stand on the right side of history by doing everything in his power to prevent more innocent loss of life.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
